In this 3-day course, participants learn basic fabrication techniques by building devices for students—start-to-finish. Possible projects for this introductory course include: customized wheelchair trays, classroom chair inserts, and easels to facilitate reading, writing, and communication.
Day One: Responding to Individual Needs
- Identify unique equipment needs based on caseload
- Model-making (single-wall corrugated cardboard, hand tools)
- Create a basic user-specific adaptation
Day Two: Building Adaptations
- Draft equipment justifications
- Equipment-building (TriWall and power
tools)
Day Three: Testing and Finishing Adaptations
- Adjust equipment based on user-testing
- Finishing (edging, painting, decorating)
- Evaluations
